Experts have long stressed the importance of breakfast as part of a healthy lifestyle, saying that first morning meal kicks off your metabolism and sets the tone for the day.
With the popularity of intermittent fasting, some people delay that first bite. But the timing of your meal doesn’t negate the importance of making sure it has the essential nutrients your body needs: Complex carbohydrates for instant energy, protein to keep you going and fiber to help you feel fuller longer.
You should also choose your ingredients wisely so you know what you’re putting into your body. Avoid processed foods, opting for whole foods instead. Using organic breakfast ingredients when possible is also a wise decision. Organic food is fresher, has fewer pesticides, is non-GMO and has more nutrients than their non-organic counterparts. Plus, organic farming is better for the environment.
You can also consider powder supplements when thinking about breakfast ideas. Supplements such as Nutrilite™ Organics Plant Protein Powders or Nutrilite Organics Superfood Powders easily increase the nutrient level of your meal without adding a lot of extra preparation steps.
The Plant Protein Powders can help when your goal is a protein breakfast, while adding the Superfood Powders to your breakfast recipes supplies beneficial plant nutrients while supporting other aspects of your health, like energy, digestion or antioxidant protection.
We know it’s easy to fall into a rut when it comes to breakfast ideas, so we’ve collected a few organic breakfast recipes to help shake up your palate and make your first meal of the day filled with nutrients—no matter when you choose to eat it.
Mix ingredients for dressing in a jar or small bowl.
In separate bowl, mash avocado with salt and Green Superfood Powder, mixing until combined. Spread onto toast, top with greens and drizzle with dressing. Other toppings to consider: pumpkin seeds, sweet and savory granola (see below), crumbled feta or pomegranate seeds.
Combine all ingredients except yogurt in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, stirring often until sauce thickens.
Once sauce has cooled, spoon 2 tbsp into the bottom of single serving jars. Top with yogurt and refrigerate. The recipe yields 1 ½ cups of fruit mixture. It can also be used as topping for oatmeal or pancakes or as part of an overnight oats recipe.
Preheat oven to 275°F (135°C). Mix oil, seasonings, agave syrup and protein powder together in medium bowl. In large bowl, combine oats, seeds and nuts. Add the seasonings and syrup mixture to the oats, stirring to combine and coat evenly.
Bake for one hour or until golden and crispy, stirring every 15 minutes to prevent burning. Let cool before storing in an airtight container. Enjoy with plain yogurt, avocado toast, salads and more!
